In these terms, we and us mean Acreage Brief Ltd. You means the person or organisation that subscribes. The service means the Acreage register at acreagebrief.com, the Acreage Intelligence subscriber pages, the fortnightly issue, and any structured data or archive supplied under an organisation licence.
1. What you are buying
The service is a compiled and verified record of licensing rounds worldwide — oil and gas, CO2 storage and geothermal. Each entry is read back to the publication of the regulator or ministry that issued it, and where something is only reported rather than published, the entry says so.
What we own, and what you are licensed to use, is our compilation: the selection of what is included, the verification against primary sources, the written assessments and flags, the structure of the record, and the archive of how it changed over time. That is protected by copyright and by database right. It is the work of obtaining and verifying the contents that you are paying for.
2. The licence we grant you
Subject to payment of the fees set out in your order confirmation, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service for your own internal business purposes for the term you have paid for.
Named readers
Access is licensed per named reader, not per device and not per login session. A named reader is one individual. Access links are personal to the reader they were issued to and must not be forwarded, shared or published.
- Individual subscription
- One named reader.
- Team subscription
- Up to seven named readers at one organisation. Named readers may be substituted by telling us; the number of concurrent named readers is what is licensed.
- Organisation licence
- Use across one organisation, together with the structured data and the snapshot archive, on the terms in section 3.
What the licence does not permit
- Sharing an access link, password or issue with anyone who is not a named reader.
- Republishing, redistributing or reselling the service or any substantial part of it.
- Systematic extraction or re-utilisation of the record, by scraping or otherwise.
- Building a product or service for third parties from the compilation.
- Removing or altering attribution, source links or check dates.
Quoting a short extract in internal analysis, with attribution to Acreage, is permitted and expected. Sending a colleague a single entry is not what these terms are aimed at. Standing redistribution in place of a subscription is.
3. Organisation data licence
Where your order includes structured data and the snapshot archive, the following applies in addition. The data is licensed for use inside your organisation only. You may load it into your own systems, combine it with your own data, and derive internal analysis from it.
You may not supply the data, or any substantial derivation of it, to any third party, whether as a product, a service, a feed or part of a client deliverable, without our written consent. Consent for client-facing use is given under a separate agreement, not under these terms.
4. Accuracy, and what this is not
We take care over the record and correct errors promptly when they are found, but we do not warrant that every entry is complete or current at the moment you read it.
The service is information, not advice. It is not investment advice, legal advice, tax advice or a recommendation to bid, to acquire or to dispose of anything. We do not advise on transactions, bids or investment decisions, and nothing in the service should be read as doing so. Decisions you take on the basis of the service are yours.
5. Fees, term and renewal
Fees, the term and the number of named readers are those set out in your order confirmation. Fees are payable in advance. Unless your order says otherwise, a subscription runs for the term stated and renews for a further equal term unless either of us gives notice before the renewal date.
We may change fees for a renewal term by telling you before the renewal date. A change never applies to a term already paid for.
Where you are a business, the Consumer Contracts Regulations cancellation rights do not apply. If you subscribe as an individual consumer, your statutory cancellation rights are unaffected by anything in these terms.
6. Suspension and termination
Either of us may end a subscription at the end of its term by giving notice before the renewal date. We may suspend or end access immediately if an access link is shared outside the named readers, if the service is redistributed, or if fees are unpaid after we have asked for them.
On termination your access ends. Data supplied under an organisation licence must be deleted from your systems within thirty days, except where you are required to retain it by law or by your own records policy, in which case the restrictions in section 3 continue to apply to what you retain.
7. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of opportunity, loss of a bid, loss of anticipated savings, or indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability arising out of any subscription is limited to the fees you paid for the term in which the claim arose.
This allocation of risk is the reason the service is priced as it is. You are expected to verify anything you act on against the regulator, which section 4 asks you to do.
8. Your data
We hold the name, work email address and organisation of each named reader, in order to provide access and to send the issue. We do not sell subscriber lists and we do not share them with third parties for marketing. A reader can be removed from the list at any time by asking.
9. General
These terms, together with your order confirmation, are the whole agreement between us. If a term is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. You may not transfer your subscription to another organisation without our consent, which will not be withheld unreasonably on a change of corporate name or a group reorganisation.
These terms, and any dispute arising out of them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
